The Padilla Lab opens in September 2026. Founding members shape everything — the science, the culture, and the lab itself.

Ph.D. students

We will recruit graduate students through Stanford Ph.D. programs, including [list your affiliated programs, e.g., Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemistry]. Admissions decisions are made by the programs, not by individual labs, so the first step is applying to the program that fits your background. Prospective students already admitted to Stanford, or current students interested in rotations, are encouraged to email Prof. Padilla directly with a brief description of your interests and your CV.

Postdoctoral researchers

We are hiring founding postdocs with backgrounds in synthetic/organic chemistry, lipid or polymer chemistry, nanoparticle drug delivery, nucleic acid therapeutics, or related areas. To apply, email Prof. Padilla with (1) your CV, (2) a brief statement of research interests and fit, and (3) contact information for 2–3 references. Use the subject line “Postdoc application – [your name]”.

Undergraduates

Stanford undergraduates interested in research experience in chemistry, bioengineering, or nanomedicine are welcome to reach out — no prior research experience required, just curiosity and commitment.

What we value

We are building a lab where rigorous science and a supportive culture go together. Founding members will get unusual ownership: setting up instrumentation, establishing protocols, and driving the first projects of a new research program. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
